Sports Article for week ending 9-2-06
The last of August and the 1st of September brought history and exiting football. On Tuesday, 8-29-06, Grand Ridge Middle School played their first ever football game. Prior to game time former football players and cheerleader from the 1940's and Grand Ridge High School were honored. Cottondale won the contest in three overtimes 28-26. On Friday night, 9-1-06, Marianna gave it all they had in a 24-16 loss at Port St. Joe. The defending 1b State Champs rolled up over 350 yards rushing in the victory for the Sharks.
Finally, on Saturday, 9-2-06, Troy got 4 touchdown passes from Omar Haugabook as the TROJANS crushed the Alabama State Team 38-0.
